dumb and dangerous February 19, 2010 P. Cardona-Fox (Austin, TX United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought 2 of these for Christmas for my 2 daughters, aged 4 1/2 and almost 2.
The darned thing got caught in my 2 year old's hair and yanked out a huge chunk of hair! She cried and I threw those darn things in the nearest trash can. They are not that much fun to begin with (just a lot of hype) and extremely dangerous for kids! The little wheels get near their face because they want to hug and kiss the little hampsters and then their hair gets caught in the wheel and it will not let go!! Scary and dangerous. Moms and Dads and Grandparents beware.
Not a good cat toy February 19, 2010 Valerie M (Layton, UT United States) Bought this to entertain my cats. It makes too much noise. Mine may be defective, because it's impossible to shut off. The noises are repetitious and would drive me crazy if I was a parent. If it wasn't so noisy, my cats would play with it more.
The critter keeps getting stuck at the edges of the floor and often flips on it's side where it can't right itself.
Just don't buy it for your cats.
Quality toy. February 17, 2010 W. Todd (Durham, NC USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter got this for Christmas and has really enjoyed it. It's a simple toy so there isn't much to say or explain.
Zhu Zhu pet hamster February 15, 2010 Marina J. Denver 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are adorable. When I purchased them they were definitely overpriced averaging about $23 each. The prices of the hamsters have come down considerably and are priced anywhere between $8 to $15 each. The
hamsters are very cute and funny. My girls do love them and enjoy all of the funny noises they make. They have helped us avoid buying the real hamsters and avoid the whole mess of cleaning up after real pets. Their accessories
however, such as the fun house and the slide are flimsy. The plastic that's used is of poor quality and the pieces don't stay connected very well.
Now that the holidays are over, how's this toy fare? February 14, 2010 Armando N. Roman (Hillsboro, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The popularity of Zhu Zhu Pets came out of nowhere, it seemed. Did anyone really think this was going to be the next Tickle Me Elmo or Robosapien? Little electronic hamsters that make sounds and crawl along the floor?? It was sad to see such cheap toys go for ridiculous amounts of money, and of course once December was over, things calmed down. Are these little hamsters worth their price? Retail price, yes. Anything over that, no.
This was my daughter's first Zhu Zhu Pet, Num Nums. S/he's pretty cute with the little heart on its back. Num Nums makes various sounds when you press the button on its nose, including a moo. It also 'walks' with the two wheels on the bottom side for a little bit before stopping on its own. Even on carpet that's needed replacing for a while, Num Nums inched its way without any problems, and glided along smoother surfaces. Yep, this is a cute toy, and aside from the plastic bottom, soft to the touch.
It's not the price that keeps this from being a 5 star toy- that all depends on the seller (come on parents, CALL THE STORE EARLY AND SEE IF THEY CAN HOLD IT FOR YOU!), but two small problems. One is that these do go through AAA batteries quickly, so you'll want to just go the extra mile and buy some good rechargeable ones. I can also see these breaking very easily because of their construction, and I'd bet anything that one good drop on a hard surface would mess it up for good. There are already stories about kids stepping on these and breaking them, so don't run around while these guys are doing their thing. I also have a minor nitpick about the nose- did the button have to protrude out so much? It looks weird, and I'm sure they could've just made the nose itself a button instead of having the button stick out of it.
Also take care cleaning this if it gets dirty- use a damp rag or sponge while making sure no water reaches the plastic bottom, or it could get in and then you'll be out of a Num Nums!
For the actual retail price, these are great toys that will keep most young kids entertained. If they were big enough to be the must-have toy last year, they had to've been doing something right, right?
